The Tessa Collection
The Kerry Phelan Designs ‘Tessa Collection’ seeks to bring homage to the history and beauty behind the various recycled vintage textiles seen throughout the body of work. The designer, Kerry Phelan sought to create a deeper connection between the wearer and the textiles themselves. Kerry Phelan believes that in modern society we are losing the connection between ourselves, our clothing, and the environment. Materials from natural fibers such as silks, cotton, linen, and wool are materials that can last a lifetime! However, they must be properly cared for, hand washed and hung to dry. Today, little do we take the time to connect with our garments and show them the proper care and mending.
Various recycled vintage textiles sourced across the East Coast of the US are seen throughout the collection. Materials such as tablecloths, bedcovers, pillowcases, table runners, curtains, house quilts, and incredible vintage hand done embroidery are reconstructed into powerful, elegant garments. Designer Kerry Phelan sought to give the beautiful vintage materials destined for a landfill a second life, with the mission to honor the earth and the history of each textile. Kerry Phelan found power and inspiration through the textiles history, specifically the strong women throughout the years who created each of the textiles by hand, embroidering, quilting and weaving the future of textiles in America. The ‘Tessa Collection’ seeks to deepen this connection between the wearer, the textile, the environment, and its history.
