A collection of handmade tops and masks entirely from recycled, vintage line tablecloths. Thanks to the ever-inspiring work of photographer Prince Dudley, I give to you a glimpse of beauty in the summer of 2020. I was inspired by to create and share this small collection of tops and masks, in excitement towards towards my next collection: Scout Reused Recycled, and work surrounding repurposing recycled materials.

In wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the fashion industry has faced societal economic shutdowns. Building an industry focusing on equality and sustainability is relevant and important now more than ever. We must work to reduce the impact fashion production has on the environment and increase the fight for social justice within the fashion industry. Before you consume, because it is cheap and convenient, consider some of these statistics:

The Fashion Industry contributes 10% of global greenhouse gas emmisions because of its long supply chains and energy intensive product. {United Nations Climate Change News} Second to oil, the clothing and textile industry is the largest polluter in the world. {Frobes} More than 85% of clothing ends up in landfills each year, where it occupies about 5% of the landfills and that number is growing. {Egde} Consumers throw away shoes and clothing, opposed to recycling, an average of 70lbs per person annually. {SmartASN.org} It is estimated that only 2% of fashion workers around the world make a living wage. {The True Cost} This means that an estimated 98% of workers in the fashion industry are likely being held in systemic poverty and cannot meet their most basic needs. {Fashion Revolution 2017} 75% of these workers are WOMEN {Fashion Revolution 2017}

It’s time to change the way we produce and consume fashion. Who’s with me?
